Invest Like An Owner
Hi, I'm DJ Jackson LaSalle and I'm writing from The City That Works — the great finance City of Chicago!
I'm an ordinary retail investor — just like you. I have no formal financial training — I'm self-taught. But, over the years I have learned so many valuable lessons, some I now consider "common sense," but others were very tough. My lessons have shaped my approach to investing in the stock market. In short, I have learned to Invest Like An Owner.
I'm a firm believer that good investing isn’t about chasing the latest trend — it’s about understanding that you're buying OWNERSHIP in companies, understanding their valuation (in a way that's personal to you), thinking long term, and staying updated about the progress your businesses are making. I started Invest Like An Owner to share what I’ve learned (and continue to learn) as a value-focused investor.
I realize that I only hold non-controlling interests in investments. So, I firmly believe in broad diversification, to minimize losses from inevitable unsuccessful investments. But, I only invest in companies I would want to own entirely. I would not even buy one single share of a company if I would not want to own the entire company. Take a look at "my subsidiaries" HERE.
I am also mindful of social justice and ethical issues, with the goal of only holding investments that I feel comfortable with and that align with my values. Overall, this approach has served me extremely well.

"Well, if you own stocks like you’d own a farm or an apartment house, you don’t get a quote on those every day or every week – you look at the business. And the value of American business depends on how much it delivers in cash to its holders over between now and judgment day."
